Periodical Articles

This guide will help you find out whether a specific journal that you need is available in the CSU Libraries, is available full-text on the web, is available through one of several databases to which the library subscribes via GALILEO, or is available in some other database. There are numerous free sources for this sort of information. If one does not work, then try another.

Articles

GIL and GIL Universal Catalog
Use GIL to search for periodical titles (see Title Searching in GIL) or subjects (see Subject Searching in GIL) for a list of periodicals we own at CSU and their location. This includes government documents periodicals. Use GIL Universal Catalog to search for periodicals owned by any school in the University System of Georgia. NOTE: Individual titles of articles are not indexed in the GIL or GIL UC catalogs. GIL only lists publication titles.

Academic Search Premier (from EBSCOhost) GALILEO logo

You may also look under the Publications tab for a searchable list of titles included in the database. The title list also includes with dates of coverage and whether they are available full-text online. (See Using EBSCO Academic Search Premier)

Look at the A-Z resource list for a list of online publications and indexes, the Online Resources by Branch for a list of online publications listed by branch of government, or the Search Across Multiple Databases search engine to search selected resources.

Indexes

Current Contents Connect GALILEO logo
Click on the "Start" button to enter Current Contents Connect. You will have to set search and browse limits by selecting your general subject area (left) and publication date range (right). Click "Submit Limit Changes" to set your limits and begin to search. Search by keyword for citations to articles or select Browse to find periodical titles. Note: Current Contents Connect defines its disciplines very broadly.

WorldCat GALILEO logo
WorldCat is a worldwide database of library holdings. This will not provide access to articles, but will give you an indication of whether the article might be available elsewhere. Enter name of the periodical in the "Title" box or search by subject or keyword. After you find a record, click "Libraries worldwide that own the item " to see a list of libraries that own the periodical and the dates of coverage. NOTE: Not all libraries allow the general public to enter their facilities. Call the library in question to find out their policy before visiting. You may wish to use InterLibrary Loan to request items not available locally. Items with low numbers of worldwide libraries are likely to be rare and/or unavailable.

IngentaConnect
Search for electronic content or journal title, or browse for a certain title by clicking "Browse Publications". Ingenta does not provide full-text and charges a fee for articles, but you can interlibrary loan the articles you find for free or search for them at area libraries.

JAKE (Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment)
Try JAKE to learn what databases offer full-text articles for a particular publication. Type in a journal title or ISSN and JAKE presents a list of databases that index the journal, indicating which include full-text articles. Note: not all databases listed by JAKE are available in this library.
