Significant Accomplishments of the Library in General
- An Information Commons, providing one-stop information shopping was established in the fall of 2002
- The Library Faculty developed new mission and vision statements for the Library
- The University hired a programming consultant, A. Vincent Pope and Associates of Atlanta, to begin developing space allotments for a new library/classroom building
- Library budget cuts during FY 03 amounted to around $105,000. As result, the library took a number of drastic actions:
- Cancelled 58 journals
- Cancelled $23,000 worth of standing orders
- Cancelled all orders for magazines on microfilm
- Stopped binding journals
- Stopped ordering books (i.e., newly-published monographs)
- A Browsing Library, containing fiction and non-fiction paperbacks, was created
- GIL terminals were installed on the second and third floors of the library
- Staff from the Bradley Library's ILL and Reference Departments visited their counterparts at the Schwob Library; the Schwob Reference staff paid a reciprocal visit to the Bradley's Reference Department
- The Library hired a Coordinator of Bibliographic Instruction to assist Library Faculty with implementing ACRL Information Literacy Standards and teaching in general
- A DVD player was purchased for the Circulation area
- The Archives was awarded two grants for a total of $5,664
- "A Case for a Fine and Performing Arts Library" was distributed in an effort to stir thinking about a grand library facility for all CSU students and faculty in the downtown area; the piece also mentioned the possibility of integrating an archives into the plan
- The Instructional Technology Services Department spent over $150,000 in special initiative and end-of-year monies for classroom technologies and related matters
- Library Faculty and Staff participated in "Library Staff Development Day," an all-day event held at the Springer Theatre's Learning Center, March 2003
- Library Faculty held a retreat in the Illges Occupational Therapy suite, July 2002
- In October 2002, the Library held its first-ever book sale
- From January to March the Library sponsored its second annual university-wide Faculty Research Forum series; 15 faculty members made short presentations about their research. There were seven forums in all; each was an hour long. The Library provided refreshments for the attendees. Surveys indicated a strong approval rating for the series
- In October, the Library hosted a lecture by Dr. Carlos Dews of the CSU Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians
- In March, the Library hosted a student poetry reading in conjunction with the Hunter Lecture by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky
- The Library held its annual Student Assistant of the Year Recognition Luncheon at the Lindsay Mock Pavilion, May 2003; Lewis Powell of the Archives was named Library Student Assistant of the Year and received a certificate and cash prize
- On a cold February morning, the Library held a Warm-Up @ The Library by serving free hot chocolate and donuts in the lobby
Significant Accomplishments/Activities of Library Faculty
Erma Banks
- Secretary of the CSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society
- Attended Black Librarians Publishing Seminar at Clark/Atlanta University
- Participated in the Information Commons planning and set-up
Roberta Chodacki Ford
- Served as library representative for NASM visit
- Conducted a statewide and regional survey on the current state of lending media via ILL
- Continued to be active in the Music Library Association; Nominating Committee, 2002-; Ad Hoc 75th Anniversary Celebration (chair), 2003-
- Attended MLA (Austin, TX) and SEMLA (Baton Rouge, LA) annual meetings
Reagan Grimsley
- Authored and was awarded two digitization grants for a total of $5,659
- Created a Carson McCullers research collection in the archives
- Made presentations to three local groups: The Muscogee Genealogical Society, the George Walton Chapter of the DAR, and the Historic Columbus Foundation
- Reviewed A Chief Lieutenant of the Tuskegee Machine: Charles Banks of Mississippi by David H. Jackson in Choice Magazine (Gainesville, FL: University of Florida, 2002)
Eileen Kramer
Julie Ligon
- Member of the GALILEO Electronic Collection Development Committee (statewide committee)
- Member of the Georgia Library Quarterly editorial board
- Wrote an article on Information Literacy for Simon Says
Diana Lomarcan
- Member of the GALILEO Electronic Resources Access Study Group (statewide committee)
- Co-creator of the library's Browsing Library
- Assisted with the Girls Domain Technology Club including: robot building workshop and career day activities at Summer Camp; a workshop on computer hardware; and a fieldtrip to the SciTrek museum in Atlanta
Callie McGinnis
- Awarded the Soroptimist Woman of Distinction Award in Education, May 2003
- British Genealogical Workshop, London, England, July 1-21, 2002, sponsored by Samford University (Birmingham, AL)

- Planned and coordinated expenditure of over $150,000 in special initiative and end-of-year monies for classroom technologies and related matters
- As chair of Library's Facilities Committee, worked closely with programming consultant for new library addition in the development of a programming plan
- Served on Columbus Technical College's Library Advisory Committee
- Served as President of Management Division and member of the ECT Foundation and Special Needs Committee of AECT (national AV organization)
